After dropping an offensive paragraph CBSE give full marks to 10th class students 


After facing criticism, including in the Lok Sabha, over a comprehension passage in Class 10 English Board exam, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), expressing regret over the “unfortunate incident”. 

“It has been decided to drop the passage No. 1 and its accompanying questions of the Question Paper Series JSK/1. Full marks will be awarded for this passage to all the students concerned,” the circular said.

Here's a of the controversial paragraph, “What people were slow to observe was that the emancipation of the wife destroyed the parent’s authority over the children. The mother did not exemplify the obedience upon which she still tried to insist… In bringing the man down from his pedestal the wife and the mother deprived herself, in fact, of the means of discipline.”

This stereotypical passage was offensive to women across the country. Leading women from journalism, teaching, and political background raised their voices against the issue.

According to the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, the entire passage “is riddled with such condemnable ideas and the questions that follow are equally nonsensical”.
